Item SKU

A SKU is an acronym for "Stock Keeping Unit". It is fundamental to all inventory operations.

One Item (such as "Official Hawaiian 100% Cotton Hang Loose T-Shirt") may have many SKUs (such as Men's S/M/L/XL, Women's S/M/L/XL, Green, Red, Yellow, Case of 50).

Each of those extra attributes can be Custom Field Types.

A SKU counts stock in a Location. For example, for SKU A123 there are 100 units in Building X, Row 1, Column 4, Bin 17.

Key Fields:

  • Supplier: the supplier who provides the product

  • Supplier Location, Lat/Long: specific location of the source product

  • Default Work Zone: before a product is brought into inventory, the work zone where it is likely to be.

  • Location Description: often specific instructions to the location

  • Year, Cutting --> specific to hay, and found on some reports.

  • Raw Inventory Unit: when purchased, this is the unit type. Example, "3x4 Bale". Note a SKU can only have ONE unit type. If you have a LOT# that has multiple unit types, then you must use multiple SKUs.

  • Processed Inventory Unit: for identity-preserved products this is the product produced after processing. Example: "Sleeve"

  • Capacity Factor

  • Completed/Exhausted

Sections:

  • On Hand: shows how much inventory exists in each location

  • Inventory: a complete ledger of all inventory transactions. It is searchable. Also, notice the page number, which you can change to see earlier data if there is a lot.

  • Misc: If you have a UPC you can enter it here, or if a specific SKU has a particular manufacturer. For example, "Samsung".
